FOCUS ST & VOLVO T5 CALIBRATIONS

Tuning Guide For T5 platform

Here at West Yorkshire Tuning we specialise in tuning the Volvo/ Ford T5 engine. We have conducted research & developed extensively on the T5 platform for the past 13 years and commonly outproduce major big named tuners on this platform as proven on many examples. (Countless examples of this can be found on our Facebook page) We come very highly recommended on all of the Focus ST & Volvo owners groups with customers travelling from all over the UK.

Below is a tuning guide on what these engines are capable of as per different staged modifications & hardware required.

Stage 1 Calibration:

260-270BHP & 440-460NM

Mandatory:

  • Completely stock vehicle (Zero modifications required)

Optional Additions:

  • Exhaust system
  • Induction kit

Stage 2 Calibration:

270-300BHP & 460-500NM

Mandatory:

  • Downpipe + Decat Or Sports Cat exhaust systems (T&C's Section 3)
  • Uprated front mount intercooler (Airtec is recommended)
  • Induction kit (Most branded inductions do the same job)

Optional Additions:

  • Inlet Plenum (Most branded do the same job)
  • Hardpipe kit
  • 440cc RS Injectors
  • Uprated recirculation valve (Forge or Turbosmart are recommended)
  • RS clutch (Use your own discretion on wether stock clutch is worn or not)

Stage 3 Calibration:

320-340BHP & 500-550NM

Mandatory:

  • Downpipe + Decat or Sports Cat exhaust systems (T&C's Section 3)
  • Uprated front mount intercooler (Airtec is Recommended)
  • Induction kit (Most branded inductions do the same job)
  • Inlet Plenum (Most branded do the same job)
  • Hardpipe Kit
  • 440cc RS Injectors
  • Uprated recirculation valve (Forge or Turbosmart are recommended)
  • Uprated actuator (Forge or Turbosmart are recommended)
  • RS clutch

We recommend to all customer for all tuning stages to run a genuine brand new boost solenoid (Do not use aftermarket solenoids they have been know to cause overboost issues)

The gains stated above are a rough estimate of what the vehicles are capable of in full healthy condition. The biggest factor that will effect your results on the day of tuning is the condition of the stock actuator. Unfortunately over the years the stock actuator springs can loose their tension. This in term means when data logging the vehicle, the requested boost pressure can not be achieved and will only produce what is mechanically capable of the actuator.

Here we show a great example of all the stages taking place on a very healthy example of the T5 engine in form of the Focus ST. This was an excellent example of a Focus ST brought to us from stock and covering over various hardware and tuning stages. The graph defines what we have achieved within stages 1-3.
